I-Ching Feng Shui

What is I-Ching Feng Shui?

This is a simple question that can be difficult to answer. I Ching Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China. It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure health and good fortune for people inhabiting it.

Feng shui (pronounced fung shway) is the ancient Chinese art of placing objects that will bring either favorable or unfavorable effects; the placement of which is based on the flow of energy in the universe call chi (pronounced chee) and on patterns of yin and yang. Thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune, while bad Feng Shui means bad luck, or misfortune.

Feng shui is based on the Taoist vision and understanding of nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with Chi, or energy. The literal translation for the Chinese words “feng” and “shui” are “wind” and “water.” It is through wind and water that chi flows through nature and the universe. Chi should not be impeded but balanced so that any negative forms (sha chi or “poisoned arrows”) may be offset with positive adjustments. The ancient Chinese believed that specific land’s energy could either make or break the kingdom, so to speak. The theories of yin and yang,( a symbol and belief of natural opposing yet complementary forces that allows a harmonious universe to exist.) as well as the five Feng Shui elements, (wood, fire, earth, gold and water) are some of the basic aspects of a Feng Shui analysis that come from Taoism.

Traditional Feng Shui practice always requires an extremely accurate Chinese compass, or Luo Pan, in order to determine the directions in finding any auspicious sector in a desired location. Traditionally Feng Shui also requires the calculation of a location’s life force energy or “Chi Level”, as well as the numerical significance of a person including their birth-date, birth hour, animal sign, and personal Gua number. In addition to this, the individual’s destiny is calculated using Ba Zi or Chinese Star Astrology, where good luck stars and bad luck stars are based.

The BaguaIn Feng Shui practice, you always see and heard of this Bagua when the Master performing Feng Shui site audit. So What exactly is Bagua?

The Bagua is an octagonal chart that depicts the eight points of a compass. Each direction on the compass focuses on a different facet of life. It is one of the more mysterious parts of Feng Shui, which teaches that there are certain energy centers of our home that correspond to all the key areas of our lives. There are many parts of Feng Shui which are logical and practical, but the study of the Bagua is one of the more esoteric parts that come out of the Chinese book of wisdom and divination, the I Ching.

As you can see from below Ba Gua table, why usually Feng Shui Master advise not to choose a house that is not square or rectangle? Why is it not auspicious if your house is missing any corner? For instance, if you house missing the east (东)part, it means that your eldest son (长男) will go missing, should you have an eldest son. [refer to 震卦]
